OUR STORY
At Welcome Home, everyone is welcome and has a place
Our Executive Director, Sherry Campbell, saw the need for an organization like Welcome Home after working for years as a hospice social worker for Hospice of Chattanooga. She kept meeting people who had nowhere to go for end-of-life care, or if they did, they were living alone in desperate situations. Unfortunately, there are very few shelter options in the Chattanooga area for end-of-life care.
After several years of work and embracing a vision to make sure that no one dies alone, our team opened Welcome Home in March 2015. Since then, we have served more than 76 individuals in a five bedroom non-medical facility, partnering with area hospices who collaborate with us to provide professional medical care.
Welcome Home’s mission is to create a community of care for those who are facing a serious illness or death and need safe shelter.
We envision a community who works together to provide all people the opportunity to live life fully in the face of serious illness or death through compassionate care, reconciled relationships, and restored dignity.
Welcome Home provides:
A well-maintained 5 bedroom home
Warm meals and comfortable living spaces
Support through trained staff and volunteers
Partnerships with local hospices who provide professional care
A place of support and community for those in need
Assistance with applying for appropriate benefits for residents and finding permanent housing should a resident's health improve
Education for students and the community regarding the discussion and care around death and dying
We do this by:
Working with local hospices to provide in home medical care and support
Investing in and benefiting from partnerships, friendships and guidance from local groups, agencies, churches and synagogues, neighbors, universities and hospitals.
Building relationships with residents and one another to impact and improve end-of-life care in Chattanooga.
Requesting that residents pay on a sliding scale for room and board. Funding is also provided by fundraising, donations and grants, as well as in-kind, for-impact gifts.
Ensuring that we are good neighbors and a benefit to the neighborhood and community around us, as well as good stewards of our resources.
